REVIEW: Cover Drive, Cabernet Sauvignon by Jim Barry
Probably my all time favourite label for a wine bottle right here...Big fans of cricket and wine.
The best thing is this wine does not flatter to deceive either...A deep ruby red wine, which on the nose brings with it blueberry, bilberry, eucalyptus, menthol, compounded with the same on the palate and more - coconut and vanilla on the finish.
High tannins. High acidity. Medium (not quite) high alcohol, fully fermented to dry. This has the potential for ageing as well as highly drinkable now, there is complexity in the wine.
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard: Based in Clare Valley in Australia, winning the Halliday Winery of the Year award in 2019.
Food Pairings: This needs ROBUST food flavours - think meaty, gamey dishes - big powerful rib eye steaks or swordfish steaks. It needs to be big and bold to satisfy the pairing with this wine but the most important thing to note, is this should not be paired with light or delicate bites to eat.
Average Price: A remarkable £13 a bottle.
Overall Rating: 90/100. A top buy!
Wonderful wine, full of robust flavours and not least, the best wine bottle design ever made
