Albourne Estate is an award winning, family-owned vineyard and winery overlooking the South Downs in Sussex, not far from Brighton (a mere 8 miles). It was established back in 2010 by a husband and wife team and has rapidly established itself as a quality-led English producer at the forefront of the growing industry on the UK wine scene.
Over the past 12 years they have managed to establish a vineyard, winery and brand new tasting room that I was luck enough to visit. They won the prestigious 'UK Wine of the Year' in 2015 with a Bacchus (English answer to Sauvignon Blanc - if you haven't tried it, do so now - immediately without haste), from what was only the second ever harvest.
Their repertoire has grown into traditional and charmat method sparkling wines, white and red still wines and one of the first English Vermouths! They, like many others throughout the UK, look to push sustainability and low carbon emissions as well looking to establish themselves as a forever boutique orientated producer but with high quality produce.
The vineyard in total has over 44,000 vines covering around 30 acres of land which include the varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Bacchus, Ortega and Dornfelder.
